Metal band Metallica will fulfill their dream to play on every corner of the globe. The band announced on Thursday that they will be performing a special show in Antarctica, but unfortunately you have to win a contest to see it.
The band said on their site that they will perform by the heliport at Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini on Sunday, Dec. 8. However, you can only go if you live in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Mexico and if you win a contest. The show is part of an Antarctic cruise from Dec. 3-10, which will stop at Carlini.
As if playing in the South Pole wasn’t enough, the group said that when they perform in a special dome at the base, the fans will be given headphones to hear the music. The “Enter Sandman” group will be playing without amplifiers for the first time.
The contest is sponsored by Coke Zero. According to Entertainment Weekly, the contest kicks off on Oct. 28. If you live in the previously mentioned countries, you can enter here.
Pollstar reports that the only previous Antarctica concert was during Live Earth in 2007. Nunatak, a group of British scientists, performed on the continent for 17 of their colleagues, although it was streamed online. Metallica’s show will also be streamed, but only in Latin America.
Metallica recently released their IMAX 3D film, Metallica: Through The Never.
