Julianne Moore confirmed for ‘Hunger Games’ finale ‘Mockingjay’

Lionsgate has attracted another highly talented star for its Hunger Games franchise: Julianne Moore. Over two months after it was first reported, the studio has finally confirmed that the Oscar nominee is joining the final films in the series, Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2.

In a press release, the studio said that Moore will play President Alma Coin, who is leading the rebellion against the Capitol.

It was reported back in June that Moore was being courted for the role. At the time, Deadline said that the Crazy, Stupid, Love. actress was poised to sign on. She will appear in both of the final Hunger Games films, which will cover Suzanne Collins’ final novel in the trilogy.

Before Mockingjay, though, Hunger Games fans have Catching Fire to look forward to on Nov. 22. Mockingjay Part 1 is due out on Nov. 21, 2014 and Part 2 will be released on Nov. 20, 2015. Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth are returning to their roles.

Moore will next be seen in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon and the Carrie remake. She recently worked on Seventh Son, which will be out in January, and David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars.

She has been nominated for four Oscars and won an Emmy for HBO’s Game Change.
