8. Matthew McConaughey

Born in 1969 in Uvalde, Texas, his mother Mary Kathleen (McCabe) was an author and teacher originally from New Jersey and his father James Donald McConaughey owned gas stations, as well as, had his own oil supply business.

With original plans to be a lawyer, he changed his major from law to film, after finding the book The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino.

His first film was Chicano Chariots in 1992.

In 2000 he started staring in romantic comedies: The Wedding Planner (2001), How To Lose A Guy in 10 days (2003), Failure to Launch (2006) and Ghost of Girlfriends Past (2009).

In the 2013 biographical film Dallas Buyers Club, McConaughey’s portrayal of Ron Woodroof – a cowboy diagnosed with AIDS– earned him the Academy Award, Critics' Choice Movie Award, Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award, all for Best Actor.
