9. Forest Whitaker

Forest Whitaker was born to Laura Frances (Smith), a special education teacher, and Forest Steven Whitaker, an insurance salesman, in Longview, Texas on July 15, 1961.

Whitaker, who is a singer with a tenor range, received a scholarship to USC, later transferring to Berkeley to study acting and stage performance.

His film debut was Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) at the age of 21. Whitaker won a Cannes Film Festival Award for best actor and received a nomination for a Golden Globe award for his performance as jazz icon Charlie “Bird” Parker, in Clint Eastwood’s Bird in 1988.

Even though it only lasted one season, Whitaker was the host of the revamped series for The Twilight Zone 2002.

Whitaker's performance in The Last King of Scotland (2006) earned him the 2007 Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He also received the Golden Globe Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA Award and many critical accolades for this same role.
