2. Season 1, episode 6: Joel kills Dan
Okay, quick primer on all the cop neighbors: Rick is a friend of Joel’s and not a problem. Anne is a new neighbor who dates Eric’s mother, who was married to Dan, Anne’s work partner. Anne and Eric’s mother only start dating after Dan, who blackmailed Joel into murdering for him, dies. This death is notable among all the other ones in the series because it’s not at the hands of Sheila, who lets her zombie instincts do the work for her. This is the first time Joel commits murder, and he does it to save their family.
