Celebrities you will never believe were game show hosts

Bruce Jenner (Double Dare - 1987)

So far, the game shows being featured have aired in the 21st century. However, to finish off the sports stars who tried their hand at hosting a game show, we turn the clock back to the 20th century and the year 1987. At that point, one of, if not, the hottest game show on television didn't even feature adults as contestants. It was a game show where getting messy was encouraged and picking a nose on television was absolutely okay. It was Nickelodeon's first game show, Double Dare. The show was hosted by Marc Summers and featured two teams of kids, usually teenagers, answering trivia questions and competing in physical challenges for a chance to run the obstacle course for eight fabulous prizes. With the show being an instant success, it was only a matter of time before an adult version of the show came into existence.

Well, in 1987, one year before the syndicated edition of Family Double Dare on Fox and three years before Nickelodeon's Family Double Dare, two pilots of an adult version of Double Dare were filmed with Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner as host.

The game format was significantly different from its kid counterpart. To start, all the questions were two-part questions and both members of the team had to correctly give one half of the answer to earn money. Speaking of money, the dollar amounts were the same ones eventually used for both versions of Family Double Dare, $25, $50 for a Dare, $100 for a Double Dare and double all those amounts during round two. The other major changes revolved around the obstacle course. Instead of eight obstacles in 60 seconds, the adults have seven obstacles to complete in 90 seconds and they have to ring a buzzer at the end of each obstacle instead of grabbing flags.

Now let's talk about Bruce Jenner as a host. There isn't too much footage to judge his performance on, but based on the one clip that is available, Bruce was a good host. Nobody can even take over Marc Summers' title of Best Double Dare Host, but Bruce did a nice job with his pilot version. He delivered questions nicely, he narrated the obstacle course wonderfully and, best of all, he thoroughly seemed like he was excited when a couple won a physical challenge and when they successfully completed the obstacle course.

This version of the show was definitely not as strong as the Nickelodeon version of Double Dare which is probably why it did not get picked up, but Bruce Jenner as a host was not the reason for this Double Dare downfall by any means.
