5. Billy Wilder’s Stalag 17, 1953
Stalag 17 is best known as the inspiration for Hogan’s Heroes, but it is one of Billy Wilder’s best and anyone who’s been reading this writer’s Film Friday columns knows that Wilder is one of my favorite directors. The genius of this film is that it treads the line of humor with thrills and has some incredible performances. William Holden won his Oscar for this one.
