Army Day: 5 celebrities who served in the United States Army

2. Jimi Hendrix

Before he became a rock legend, Jim Hendrix had the choice of going to Jail or entering the Army when he was caught stealing cars in Seattle. In 1961, Hendrix entered the 101st Airborne Division in Kentucky.

He was awarded the Screaming Eagles patch after completing paratrooper training.

Although he was most known for his service as a "habitual offender" while commanding officers noted he was unable to, "carry on an intelligent conversation."

Lucky for Hendrix he played guitar still while off-duty, which many complained about.

One of his commanding officers had said, "This is one of his faults because his mind apparently cannot function while performing duties and thinking about his guitar." according to Military.com.

Hendrix was later discharged from the Army due to an ankle injury from a botched parachute jump and was discharged honorably, according to Business Insider.
