1. Oprah is ranked as the greatest philanthropist in American history
Yes, Oprah is the “Queen of all media,” a billionaire, an actress, and a business icon. But Oprah is also a philanthropic frontrunner for people in need. She gives away $40 million dollars annually to charity, primarily through the Oprah Winfrey Foundation—she is the most charitable celebrity by a wide margin. Through the Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation, she aims to gather funds for the operation of the Leadership Academy for Girls.
She has supported 29 different charities and foundations over the years and she even has a bill named after her. The National Child Protection Act was passed in 1993 by then President of the United States, Bill Clinton. The bill was informally known as the Oprah Bill because of how involved she was in getting this significant legislation legitimized on record. The NCPA’s goal was to create a nationwide database of all indictments of child abuse, sex offense charges, arson, felony drug charges and other violent crimes.
Oprah is a trailblazer as a media mogul, but she’s also a voicebox and leader for women, minorities and the ever-changing societal ramifications people deal with daily.
