Elton John pushed the medium of Rock and Roll and Pop as a ballad-oriented singer/songwriter and played the piano with fiery fingers, injecting the ivory keys into the counterculture and mainstream.
He, in fact, contributed to ushering rock into packed arenas during the 1970's and with his musical partner, Bernie Taupin helped mold the Seventies and due to tunes of ballads and rockers, he was as important to the seventies as the Beatles are to the 60s and Presley to the 50s.
For example from 1972 to 1975, he released seven albums that topped the charts, like Honky Chateau, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Rock of the Westies. All seven albums released in those years were at #1 for a combined total of 39 weeks, meaning one of his albums was #1 every fourth week roughly for four years, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Impressive, to say the least.
Elton John was not only influenced by the greats but is a great and has influenced musicians up to this day. He is iconic for giving the seventies the classic edge you love about that era, and in turn, expanded pop and rock and is one of the deities of Rock n' Roll.
