3. He had the most successful pop single ever

Elton John's, Candle in the Wind, revised by Taupin was released, mourning the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. It sold more than 30 million copies and it spent 14 weeks at the #1 spot of Billboard's chart and remained on the chart for 42 weeks.

Not only that, the song was personal and felt from the heart since Elton John and Princess Diana were friends.

Elton John performed the 1997 rewrite just once, at Princess Diana's funeral. At concerts he plays the original, repeatedly turning down replaying the 1997 version, according to The Sun.

Elton John said on the talk show Lorraine on January 25, 2018, about Princess Diana that, "She was very much loved. She was a controversial figure in some respects, but not to me. I loved her because she did so much for AIDS and she was a great friend to me. We had our fallings out, but we reconciled in the end," according to Little Things.
