10 Cicely Tyson movies you cannot miss seeing

1. The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman

This classic 1974 TV movie was also based on a 1971 novel of the same name by Ernest J. Gaines. The story is about and told by Jane Pittman, an ex-slave. She recounts all the struggles she went through in her life and the lessons that shaped her into the woman she was. Although most people believe that Jane Pittman was a real person and/or the events that occurred in the story were real, in reality, Jane and those stories were all fictional and based upon extensive research done by the author. Jazz Singer, Odetta, and Katherine Helmond were in the movie as well. The movie scored Tyson two Primetime Emmy Awards in 1974: Best Lead Actress in a Drama and Actress of the Year.
