5. 1992 MTV Video Music Awards
Back when the 'M' in MTV stood for music, Nirvana gave a punk performance for the commercial music industry. It was said the band was told not to play their song "Rape Me," so instead, the band played the first few seconds of the song before cutting to the agreed song "Lithium," probably sending MTV execs into a frenzy. Trolling level: Awesome! The band ended their performance by smashing their instruments while bass player Krist Novoselic repeatedly yelled, "Hi Axl," at Guns and Roses singer Axl Rose, due to a continuation of beef between the two front men. Nirvana won Best New Artist that night at the VMAs.
