5. Django Unchained
Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained is one of his masterpieces, winning two Oscars including best writing and original screenplay while also being nominated for best picture in the 85th Acadamy Awards in 2013.
Jamie Fox plays the former slave turned bounty hunter when he is saved by Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) from unending internment as a prisoner of the former American slave trade in the mid-1800s. After they kill baddies and have rough riding adventures, they go and try to save Django's wife Broomhilda von Shaft (Kerry Washington), from the clutches of the monstrous slave owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) with his psychologically twisted and loyal slave Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson).
The movie was a comment on racism and looking back from now was hinting at growing racial tensions in our country while giving audiences a slave owner's worst fear, a righteous black man with a gun with the sharpshooting skills of a hitman. Just watching Django's bullets almost never missing is crazy.
