10 Oscar-winning movies from the past decade you can't miss

9. Slumdog Millionaire

Another winner of Best Picture in 2009 at the 81st Acadamy Awards, Slumdog Millionaire was directed by Danny Boyle and written by Simon Beaufoy and is based on the book by Vikas Swarup.

The movie follows an 18-year-old veteran of the Indian slums of Mumbai, Jamal Malik, his bother and his love interest, all recounted while India watches him try to win 20 million rupees in Kaun Banega Crorepati? (Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?) hosted by Prem, a huge star in India. With just one final question to go, the show breaks, and he is taken into interrogation when he is accused of cheating. Jamal tells them his life story about how he and his brother survived and encountered local gangs, and of Latika, Jamal's long lost love.

The story is a story of life and of high stakes and is certainly worth the watch for the lesson the story relays and how anyone can rise up and become a millionaire.
