2. Mad Max: Fury Road
Mad Max: Fury Road, directed by George Miller, and written by George Miller, Brendan McCarthy and Nick Lathouris, won six Oscars at the 88th Academy Awards in 2016, including Best Achievement in Production Design and Film Editing and was also nominated for Best Movie.
The movie packs a punch and is a resuscitation of the Mel Gibson originals, with Tom Hardy playing Mad Max as he encounters the living hell that is post-nuclear zone Austrailia. He runs into one of the last refuges of humanity where an abominable warlord controls the water, employing dreaded warriors to do his bidding. Max meets one of the top soldiers, Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron), and they team up to escape with valuable cargo to undo the warlords grasp on his enslaved people.
Carnage, fantastical scenes of makeshift vehicles in high-speed chases and Charlize Theron make this film gritty.
