1. Kesha, "Praying"
This song was introduced by Janelle Monae who spoke about the Time's Up Movement. The Grammys put a lot of powerful women on stage to back Kesha up as she sang, including '80s icon Cyndi Lauper, Bebe Rexha, Camila Cabello, Julia Michaels and Andra Day.
'Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell/I had to learn how to fight for myself/And we both know all the truth I could tell/I'll just say this is "I wish you farewell"
Hollywood is just coming to terms with what the music industry has been fighting for a long time, as Kesha's lyrics say for themselves. Her allegations of rape against her manager Dr. Luke had her in court in 2014, a court that forced her back under his thumb and almost broke her. Her recording label, SONY, which refused to let her out of that contract, came under fire last night as well and ended up removing their tweet which proclaimed their love for Kesha.
The final image of the performance, the women in tears and embracing was as powerful a message as the song itself.
