3. The Shape of Water — Dec. 8, Limited
While Del Torro’s last couple of outings — Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim — may have not been his best work to date, The Shape of Water is exactly the kind of movie we want to see him direct. A fairy-tale love story between a mute janitor and an aquatic monster that’s set in the Cold War, the trailer gives off a strong Pan’s Labyrinth vibe — which is arguably Del Torro’s best work to date. The early reviews are all saying that The Shape of Water is incredible, and we’re dying to find out how good it is ourselves.
