4. Misery (1990)
The film that won Kathy Bates her first and only Oscar, Misery is about an author who gets in a car crashed but then is rescued by one of his crazy, die-hard fans. And when we say crazy, we mean cr-az-y. As the film goes on, the story becomes more and more messed up. Directed by Rob Reiner and with great performances from Bates and James Caan, Misery really is one of King’s best adaptations.
