You might have forgotten that there’s a third Maze Runner film still on the way. We slightly may have. However, Twentieth Century Fox has just released the first trailer for the next Maze Runner film to remind us all:
The official title for the film is now Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which is the same title as the third book - yet fifth in chronological order - in the young adult series written by James Dashner.
The trailer — which boasts some serious Mad Max: Fury Road vibes — is relatively short, but gives us an interesting look into what the plot may be. Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his gang are now seemingly trying to break back into the maze after the events of The Scorch Trials, looking to find the cure for the epidemic disease known as “flare.”

And if it feels like this movie is a long time coming — well, that’s because it is. The first Maze Runner film came in 2014, with Scorch Trials quickly following it in 2015. The Death Cure —being released on Jan. 26, 2018 — was originally set to be released on Feb. 17 of this year, but was delayed when O’Brien was injured on set.

Is Maze Runner: The Death Cure going to be worth the wait? We’ll have to wait until see. This is said to be the final film in The Maze Runner series, but we’re going to let the box-office numbers give the final word on that (seeing how Hunger Games prequels are in development, anything is possible). The Death Cure will also star Kaya Scodelario (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones), Aidan Gillen (also Game of Thrones), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) and Patricia Clarkson (House of Cards).
