Liverpool indie Mariachi group Roja delves into Western territory on double single, "Company"

"Company" Art Cover, Roja

Liverpool’s indie Mariachi group Roja brings to you a new double single, entitled, “Company.”  The b-side is a Mariachi cover of Lady GaGa’s major hit, “Bad Romance.”

A departure from the very British post-grunge sound of their former alt-rock group, Marlowe, Roja spans the global horizon toward the desert landscapes and backdrop of Spaghetti Western soundtracks.

“Company” captures a Latin-fusion sound with an epic and sweeping, operatic approach.  The drama coming from the robust cadence emerges with a raw energy reminiscent of a Western film soundtrack.  Listeners can envision the cowboys going down the beaten trodden path toward the setting sun, and the enflaming music being buoyed by epically rendered strings and the highly enticing flamenco acoustic guitars.

“Bad Romance” is Roja’s cover of the Lady Gaga hit.  It adds a triumphant Western appeal to the pop jam, which immediately demands your attention.  This cover encapsulates a sweeping approach to the remake, saturated with victorious horns and lively strings.  If it could even be possible, the cover seems to be even more theatrical than the original single.

Roja’s energetic Western style delves into Mariachi territory that expands beyond your normal formulaic approach to music. The tantalizing vocals issued by Simon Bradshaw rules over a terrain swamped by triumphant strings and sweeping flamenco guitar music.  Pulling together many diverse genres, these alt rockers prove to the world that they have the chops to make it big.

Following their recent appearance as finalists on the BBC TV show, “UK’s Best Part-Time Band” and radio support from BBC Introducing, Steve Lamacq, Gideon Coe and the Late Junction, Roja are coming out with new mesmerizing material later this year.

The new double single, “Company” is their latest.
