YouTube co-star of Vlogbrothers, Hank Green is an expert on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and he has a way of merging pop culture and science into easily digestible and fun to watch videos. This eclectic man is also a musician, producer, teacher, screenwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist, loving husband and proud first time daddy. He has a lot to say about Emerson’s “We Love Stem” initiative.
Green is the co-creator of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (2012–2013), video blog web series adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. He co-founded merchandise company DFTBA Records as well as game company DFTBA Games and aptly named online video production company Pemberley Digital, a video blog production company that produces vlog adaptations of public domain classic novels. His regular partner in crime is his older brother, John Green, who is also known for his novels including The Fault in Our Stars.
Hank and John’s work can be found on Nerdfighteria and they are co-creators of Complexly.com. Their video blogging began in 2007 with a video project titled Brotherhood 2.0, and have since worked on Crash Course, SciShow and Vlogbrothers which currently has more than 3 million subscribers and have produced more than 1500 videos where they are known for “raising nerdy to the power of awesome.”
They started the Project for Awesome (P4A) in 2007 to promote and raise money for charities for a 48-hour period in December. They have earned millions through this endeavor. The brothers also co-created VidCon, the largest web video convention in the world.
Hank has also written for The New York Times, Scientific American and Mental Floss Magazine.
New daddy and self-proclaimed lover of people, Hank Green spoke to Michelle Tompkins for TheCelebrityCafe.com about his YouTube sites, working with his brother, what parents can do to encourage their kids to be interested in STEM, new survey results from Emerson on “Parents, Homework and the Perception of STEM Careers in America,” how STEM influences so much pop culture, the sweet reason why he moved to Montana, what he likes to do for fun and more.
