Carol Burnett is returning to TV.
Which is a sign that something is still mighty right with America.
The comedy legend will star in a new series for Netflix, “A Little Help With Carol Burnett”. The show revives Art Linkletter's classic 'kids say the darnedest things' formula.
According to Variety, the iconic comedian said: “Someone once asked me how old I am inside. I thought about it, and came up with, ‘I’m about eight.’ So it’s going to be a lot of fun playing with kids my age,”
“A Little Help With Carol Burnett” is an unscripted, show that features Burnett talking with a group of kids. She's out to get their unvarnished opinions on serious subjects.
Which: Formula for hilarity.
Netflix has ordered 12 episodes which will be filmed in front of a live studio audience, classic Carol Burnett style.
“We’re thrilled Carol is bringing her unique sensibilities to Netflix,” said Bela Bajaria, vice president of content acquisition for Netflix. “Carol is truly a legend in the entertainment industry with unprecedented success and fandom across TV, film and the stage, and we are both honored and excited to work with her.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to be working on our first series with Netflix, and to be working with a comedy legend like Carol Burnett is truly a dream come true,” added Mark Bracco, executive vice president of programming and development for Dick Clark Productions.
Burnett is perenially popular and like Betty White, has had a resurgence in appreciation for her humor.
Her standard setting televisions show, "Carol Burnett and Friends" established the bar for wacky American parody in the 1970s. It featured some of the most memorable comedy performances in television history. It also hosted some of the greatest performers in the business. Harvey Korman, Vicky Lawrence and Tim Conway entertained the country with side splitting skits that are still copied to this day.
Viva Carol Burnett.
