‘Fate of the Furious’ continues winning the box office race

The Fate of the Furious easily won the weekend box office for the third straight week. The film brought in $19.4 million and raised its total domestic gross to $192.7 million.

Box Office Mojo is reporting that The Fate of the Furious is only the fifth Universal title to cross $1 billion worldwide ever joining Jurassic World, Furious 7, Minions and Jurassic Park. Now that the last two films of the Furious franchise have passed $1 billion worldwide, I expect Fast 9 and Fast 10 to follow the same pattern.

We have a surprise at second and third place this week as How to Be a Latin Lover had a very impressive opening of $12 million while third place belonged to Baahubali 2: The Conclusion which brought in $10.1 million. This was very impressive considering the film was only being shown in 425 theaters.

The Circle had quite the disappointing opening finishing in fourth place with only $9.3 million. Negative reviews from critics will probably hurt this film’s chances of gaining a larger audience. The Boss Baby rounds out the top five with $9.1 million and is closing in on $150 million domestically.

Beauty and the Beast brought in $6.4 million and has now crossed $480 domestically after 45 days. Get Out continues to still have an audience after being in theaters for 66 days. The film has passed $170 million domestically and has been one of the most entertaining movies I have seen this year.

I expect The Fate of the Furious to finally be dethroned from the top spot of the box office next weekend as the first weekend of May will bring us the highly-anticipated Marvel sequel Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2.
