‘Zoey 101’ actor Matthew Underwood saves baby from drug-fueled car crash (Video)

Former Zoey 101 star Matthew Underwood came to the rescue of a 4-month-old child last week after the baby’s parents were involved in a very serious drug-fueled crash in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

TMZ obtained video of the wreck, which took place on Thursday, March 30.

The police report states that Underwood sprung into action when he saw a car go through a stop sign and swerve across multiple lanes of traffic before slamming into a tree.

The actor quickly ran to assist those inside the car while his sibling called 911. He found one female driver and one male passenger both passed out in a vehicle. Perhaps even more alarming was that there was a baby crying in the backseat of the car.

“I heard a baby cry and that’s when I immediately ran around the other side of the car and looked for the baby,” Underwood told WPTV.com.

Officers arrived on the scene and noted that both adults had heroin needles sticking out of their arms. They said that the woman, Jessica Ruth Hand, was “unconscious behind the wheel of the car with a syringe in her arm” and the man, John Jacob Rodriguez, was found “unconscious in the back seat with a syringe next to him and an infant boy in an unsecured car seat alongside him.”

They were taken to a nearby hospital and arrested for child neglect and several drug-related charges. The baby was then turned over to a family member.

“I hope they can get rehabilitated,” Underwood said. “I hope they can wake up and want their child back so much, want their life together, that they’ll get clean.”
