1. Gone with the Wind (1939)
The Civil War drama was based on a book that took ten years to write and then made into a four-hour epic war romance. It follows southern belle Scarlett O’Hara as her character survives the trials of war and adapts to a country that will never be the same again.
The classic film still holds the record for the highest grossing film ever made, even 78 years after it was first released. After inflation is taken into account, the war drama earned $3.3 billion worldwide at the box office. It holds a score of 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
