9.  The Parents

Both Hannah and Clay’s parents are not clueless adults.  They are not helicopter parents.  They do not put unachievable pressure on their kids.  Unfortunately, the parents of some teens battling depression do not know the depths of what’s wrong with their kids until it is too late.  Even though Lainie Jensen is a bit self-absorbed and should have recused herself in any involvement in the lawsuit regarding the school, she means well and wants her son to be happy, healthy and safe.
