Whoopi Goldberg has a history lesson to give to Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson.
A speech Carson gave on Monday, March 6, in which he likened African slaves to immigrants has sparked controversy.
"There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less,” Carson stated, “They too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great grandsons, great granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.”
Goldberg responded to Carson's speech with criticism on The View Tuesday morning.
"Were the slaves really thinking about the American dream? No, because they were thinking, ‘What the hell just happened?!’" she exclaimed incredulously. "Immigrants travel somewhere in search of a 'better life.'”
"And its usually voluntary", chimed in Joy Behar. Also mentioning Carson's past comparison of slavery to Obamacare.
“I have black friends, too!” Goldberg said in response to that. “How does he miss what slavery is?! How does he miss that no slave came to this country willingly?”
Goldberg wasn't the only celebrity to get heated about Carson's speech. Actor Samuel L Jackson tweeted, “OK!! Ben Carson....I can't! Immigrants ? In the bottom of SLAVE SHIPS??!! MUTHA----- PLEASE!!!”

And Ava DuVernay took to Twitter as well with her response writing, "Their dream? Not be kidnapped, tortured, raped, forced to mate, work for another's gain, torn from family + culture."
