16. Hush (Season 4, Episode 10)
When one of the creepiest monsters of the series come into town, the citizens of Sunnydale are literally struck mute.
Whedon decided to write this episode in response to critics claiming that BTVS’s success was only because of the witty dialog. To stick it to the haters, Whedon wrote Hush with only 17 minutes of dialog in a 45-minute episode. The flawless episode was nominated for an Emmy and remains one of the eeriest episodes to ever air on television.
