Top 20 best 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' episodes

12. I Only Have Eyes for You (Season 2, Episode 19)

One of the best acted episodes of the series takes place when a heartsick ghost takes its anger out on Sunnydale High. Just before the Sadie Hawkins’s dance in 1955 two lovers were involved in a murder-suicide. Now one of their ghosts is reenacting the incident by possessing others. When Buffy and Angelus end up at the school together a heartbreaking and brilliantly acted scene occurs, with Buffy as the man and Angelus as the woman.

The episode is emotionally distressing as the audience feels the pain and the guilt that Buffy feels after the world’s worst break up.  It is also the episode that convinced Whedon that David Boreanaz was capable of starring in his own series, which happened in the spin-off Angel.
