2. Belle's character
There has been some argument among critics on whether Emma Watson was a good choice for Belle. Some say she looked the part, yet didn’t have a strong enough voice for the character. However, what I was more impressed with was the way Belle was written.
In the original, Belle is an independent Disney princess. But the remake took that independence to a new level. Belle was unique and true to herself. She was inventive and quick witted. She was a character that didn’t simply react to her situation, but took charge of her actions. She was active.
She was also a little risqué. I’m pretty sure the proper women in 18th century France wouldn’t tuck their dresses into their pantalets or run about in nothing but their petticoats. In short, Belle was definitely a perfect female character.
