Alessia Cara does spot-on impressions of other artists on Jimmy Fallon
On Friday Feb. 3, Alessia Cara was the latest contestant on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’s in-house game show Wheel of Musical Impressions. The game uses a randomizer that mixes and matches songs and artists for Fallon and the contestant to sing, as you can probably predict, the combinations are often both ridiculous and hilarious
The first song that the wheel chose for Cara was the schoolyard classic “Skidamarink” sung in the style of none other than Ariana Grande. Cara sang the sang in a smooth jazzy rendition and was sure to hit all the high notes as Grande is known for. Cara also sang The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire theme in the style of Nicki Minaj, but the song that was the standout performance of the night was Ba Ba Black Sheep in the style of Lorde. Her imitation of the Pure Heroine singer was spot-on, complete with her signature “claw” hand gesture and became a social media sensation overnight.
Although Cara may be young she has already had a full musical career, she recently finished up her Know-It-All tour, in support of her first album of the same name. She lent her voice for the song “How Far I’ll Go” from the hit Disney animated film Moana. She is also set to host Saturday Night Live for the first time on Feb. 4.
