Stephen Colbert to host the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards

The Late Show host Stephen Colbert is set to host the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 17 live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

On Monday, Jan. 23, CBS Entertainment executive vice president Jack Sussman said this about the host, as reported by E! News.

"Stephen is the ultimate master of ceremonies with award-winning creative talents, and as we've seen the past few months, he has a fearless passion for live television. We look forward to honoring television's best while entertaining audiences with the creative energy and sharp comedy of Stephen Colbert."

No pressure right? Colbert shared his excitement (and possibly nerves) in response to Sussman, saying that this year's Emmys "will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period. Both in person and around the globe."

This is Colbert's first time hosting the Emmys.  His new job confirms the trend of late night hosts being the faces of all of the upcoming award shows, as noted by The New York Times.

Jimmy Fallon just hosted the Golden Globes, while the Grammys will be hosted by James Corden next month and Jimmy Kimmel, last year’s Emmys host, will host the Oscars in February.  The rotating late night hosts correspond with the network's they're on and the networks that house the award shows.

Nominations for the Emmy Awards will be announced on July 13.

It may not be for a while, but make sure to tune in on Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. to see what Colbert has in store!
