FX's Golden Globe winning series Atlanta is set to air season two in 2018, due to star Donald Glover's busy schedule and fans of the comedy are not happy.
Glover, who recently won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy for his work on Atlanta, recently reached a deal with FX Productions that allows him to keep his roles as writer, director, star and executive producer of Atlanta. While he maintains these roles, he also has to produce new material for the network and other affiliates, as reported by Variety.
The deal was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, presidents of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.
“Donald is a remarkable artist, effortlessly shifting from actor to writer, producer, director and musician to create one amazing project after another,” said Grad. “We’re proud to partner with Donald in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television.”
While Glover's relationship with FX has strengthened, fans are not happy that the show's highly anticipated second season will not air this year. Fans can blame Glover's schedule for this delay.
Glover has been slated to star as Lando Calrissian in a Star Wars Hans Solo film set for a 2018 release, as reported by Deadline. Glover also has another life as a successful hip-hop artist, going by the name Childish Gambino.
Atlanta, which is about African-American life in the city of Atlanta, has been a great success for FX. The show acquired about 4.8 million viewers per episode, which garnered an immediate season two pick-up. However, fans will have to be patient as they wait to see what Glover has in store for Atlanta in 2018.
