10. OJ Simpson murder trial revisited
2016 was the year that the public once again became fascinated with Orenthal James Simpson and the 1994 murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.
The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story premiered on FX in February to rave reviews and went on to win several Emmy Awards. In June, ESPN aired Ezra Edelman’s documentary O.J.: Made in America as part of its 30 for 30 series. That too was a ratings winner as viewers just couldn’t get enough of the trial of the century in which the former sports hero was the prime suspect in the murder case.
