Trailer Park: ‘Jackie’ headlines the new releases

The struggle is real at the box office this weekend. From a former First Lady to a soldier and children of an inmate, the characters of this week’s new releases face what seems to be insurmountable heartache.

Take an intimate look at one of the country’s most famous First Ladies in Jackie. Natalie Portman stars in the one hour and thirty-nine minute biopic which shows the psychological and emotional struggle Jacqueline Kennedy went through following the death of her husband President John F. Kennedy. The drama co-stars Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, John Hurt and Peter Sarsgaard.  It’s rated R for violence and language.

A marine returns home from an intense tour of duty in Afghanistan in Man Down.  Having not seen his estranged wife or son in quite some time, he goes on a mission to find them. Scarred from what he saw during the war, he struggles with post traumatic stress disorder as he searches for his loved ones.  Shia LaBeouf stars in the one hour and thirty minute drama alongside Jai Courtney, Gary Oldman, Kate Mara, Clifton Collins Jr. and Charlie Shotwell.  The suspense filled film is rated R for violence and language.

A young girl learns about life and death from her surgeon mother in The Eyes of My Mother.  A terrifying intruder experience peaks her interest and causes her to go down a dark path.  The dramatic horror film is running in limited theaters for one hour and sixteen minutes.  It’s rated R for violence and nudity.

A young man takes care of his younger brother while their mother sits in prison in Run the Tide. Upon her release, he kidnaps him and heads to the west coast. Scarred from his own relationship with his mother, he flees with the intention to give his little brother a better life. The PG-13 drama stars Taylor Lautner, Nico Christou and Constance Zimmer. The limited released film runs for one hour and forty minutes.

With all the struggles and drama unfolding this week, next week there’s a little comic relief. The adult comedy Office Christmas Party enters theaters on Dec. 6.
