On the last Jane The Virgin, we saw Catalina was still at the house two weeks later. After waking up Mateo when the little boy had just begun sleeping peacefully, Jane and Michael agree she needs to go soon. However, Jane assures him it’s only four more days.
However, she is still there five days later. At her abuela’s house, Jane tells Alba she can’t make it to church. She has not gone in a while and Alba lays on the guilt for her not going and how it can affect Mateo.

Rogelio confronts Xo about her relationship with Bruce. She claims he is a different person and she wants to see where it goes before telling Jane. He promises not to tell her before going to talk to a matchmaker.
Darci Factor, who calls herself a love dealer, tells Rogelio that he can’t have sexual relations with the women she sets him up with. In addition, he has to leave talk about exes out of the meeting.
Jane is watching a Hitchcock film after her writer’s group told her to work on the suspense she is adding to her novel. She tells Michael about all the elements to suspense, including having information that characters don’t know about, giving one character information and trying to defuse tension.
In good old telenovela fashion, the narrator gives us, the audience, a glimpse of an envelope that holds life changing information.
As Rafael is visiting Mateo, Michael tells him the bank account was connected to a convent in Italy. As the topic of church comes up, Jane tells Rafael she wants to take Mateo to church. Rafael does not want to, as he says he wants Mateo to be old enough to decide for himself. Jane says religion is important to her and Michael ends up blurting out that they haven’t been to church since they were married.
That #Hitchcock scene was soooooooo much fun to shoot. @Brettdier did a perfect Jimmy Stewart #thestutter #janethevirgin

Michael later apologizes for the slip and reluctantly agrees to join her for church, even though he really only goes at Easter and Christmas.
Meanwhile, Jane tells Catalina that it is time for her to leave and does so gently. Catalina says she has to go to a gala that she is co-chairing.
Back to Rogelio, he tries meeting the women that Darci set him up with. However, he ends up talking about his daughter and also tells the women he is not interested. After the bust, he begs Darci for another chance. She agrees but doesn’t have a place to hold a mixer. He offers up the Marbella.
Rafael is at church with Mateo, Jane and Michael. However, being young, Mateo is unable to sit still. Rafael takes him into the hallway and after responding to Rogelio’s texts, he has a sudden memory when he sees a statue in the church. He tells Michael and Jane he had a memory of being in church with his mother.
Michael and Jane talk that night, where he asks her about her need for going to church all of a sudden. She tells him it is very important to her.
Jane drops Michael off at Rafael’s and sees Catalina is there. She is surprised to see her and later, we see her telling Michael that Catalina is hiding something. She is not listed as a chair for the gala. After Jane leaves Rafael’s, he has another memory as he sees her walking away.
At his work, Michael and his cop friend find out the convent had some artwork that went missing in the ‘80s. He gives the information to Rafael, who recognizes one of the pieces. He takes Jane and Michael to the storage area for his father’s things. When he sees the painting, he realizes his father was involved.
Rafael ends up telling them that he hid the financial irregularities he found his father had. Michael feels conflicted about the information and Jane is disappointed. Later, she tells her husband he doesn’t have to lie.
The next day, Jane gets a call from Rogelio, who ends up telling her about Bruce and Xiomara. Jane leaves a message for her mother, who in turn tries to Rogelio. He is at the mixer and since he won’t return her calls, Xo goes to confront him. He admits that he is having a hard time and is not even attracted to the women there. Darci is less than thrilled.
Jane tries to get information from Catalina about the gala, but she avoids the conversation. Then when Jane finds money and jewels in her purse, she becomes suspicious. Catalina finds her going through her purse and tells her the money was due to ATMs not being trustworthy so she carried a lot of cash. The jewels were also going to be auctioned to send money back to Venezuela.
Darci tells Rogelio she does not want him in her service anymore. After he apologizes, she asks why he is focused on having a baby. He tells her about not having been able to be a father to Jane her entire life.
Catalina talks to Rafael about not being mad at Jane and when she says a phrase in another language, he has another memory of his mother speaking to a nun. He calls Michael and Jane to tell them he now remembers he had been in a convent.
When he remembered a particular statue, Michael found it was from a convent in Miami and the Mother Superior had been in the convent in Italy where the money was being sent to.
Michael says he can go on a tour and since he may need help with questions to ask, Jane goes with him. They go to the convent and a nun calls the Mother Superior to reveal she thinks Rafael Solano is there.
Jane and Rafael separate when he goes down a familiar hallway. He goes into the Mother Superior’s office as she is returning. Jane discovers this and tries to warn Rafael, but there’s no service on her cell phone.
She tries to find the Mother Superior but ends up finding another nun.
In the Mother Superior’s office, Rafael is going through her things when she walks in. She tells Rafael about having worked with his father to steal the art for money for the orphanage. Then she tells him his mother had paid her to keep a secret. When he asks what it is, she hands him an envelope.
Meanwhile, Jane ends up talking to the nun about her problems. As she begins talking about why she hasn’t been going to church, she tearfully admits to being mad at God after her husband was shot and almost died.
Rafael comes to get Jane and he is clearly worked up. When they meet up with Michael in the car, Rafael reveals he is going to return the art and turn himself in. He wants to set a good example for his son. Michael and Jane are stunned at his decision.

Later on, Michael and Jane resolve their church issues. She will work on her faith and he will go to church more often. He takes Mateo to bed as Jane works on her writing. The next morning, Michael gets the bad news that he did not pass his physical. He is stuck on desk duty.
At Alba’s house for brunch, Jane talks to Xo about Bruce and discovers her mom lied about not knowing he was married. Jane simply gets up and goes into the house.
Darci tells Rogelio that she found a woman who wants a baby with him: herself. She is willing to have a child with him they can share. He tells his family, who congratulate him on, as Jane puts it, his “business arrangement.”
Jane gets a call from Catalina that Rafael is upset. As she hangs up, we see Catalina greeted by a man who is the owner of the money and jewels she had taken.
Jane goes to see Rafael, who hands her the envelope so she can see it. It is a birth certificate that reveals his mother lost a child around the time he was born in Italy and the nuns gave him to her. He is not actually a Solano.
