Trailer Park: 'Almost Christmas' & 'Arrival' arrive in theaters

Emotions run high in the dramas and thrillers making their debut this weekend. Aliens invade theaters in a new film starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. Plus, it may only be two weeks after Halloween, but it’s not too early for a family Christmas film at the box office.

A dysfunctional family comes together for the holidays in Almost Christmas. To make their father’s wish come true, the group must spend time together and do the nearly impossible, keep the fighting to a minimum. Danny Glover, Kimberly Elise, Omar Epps, Nicole Ari Parker, J.B. Smoove and Gabrielle Union star in the PG-13 comedy. The film plays for one hour and fifty-two minutes.

When extraterrestrials enter Earth, humans must figure out how to keep the peace in Arrival. One woman may be the key to communicating with the aliens but time is running out. Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker star in the PG-13 sci-fi action film. The drama plays for one hour and fifty-six minutes.

A 19-year-old Army private returns home from the Iraq war in Billy Lynn's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. As he’s honored for his duty at a Thanksgiving Day football game, he struggles with being celebrated for a devastating time in his life. The one hour and fifty minute drama is directed by Academy Award winner Ang Lee and stars Joe Alwyn, Kristen Stewart, Chris Tucker, Vin Diesel and Steve Martin. It’s rated R for language, war violence, sex and drugs.

A child psychologist takes in an orphan boy in Shut In. During a dangerous winter storm, the boy goes missing but his spirit haunts her and her son. The PG-13 thriller stars Naomi Watts, Oliver Platt, Charlie Heaton and Jacob Tremblay. The suspense film runs for one hour and thirty-one minutes.

A businesswoman is raped in her home by a mysterious man in Elle. Following the assault, she goes on a dangerous mission to find her attacker. The French language dramatic thriller is running in limited theaters for two hours and eleven minutes. It’s rated R for violence, sex, nudity and language.

More dramas unfold next week with the release of Bleed for This and Casey Affleck’s Manchester by the Sea. Joining in the box office race on November 18 is J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beast.
