Rosie O'Donnell defends Barron Trump comments

Rosie O'Donnell is speaking out about her comments speculating that Donald Trump's son Barron may have autism.

Last Tuesday, O'Donnell tweeted an anti-bullying video asking, " Barron Trump autistic? If so — what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the AUTISM epidemic."

The tweet has since been deleted,  but caused a great deal of controversy with many calling Rosie's comments "shameful" and saying that whether her hypothesis was true or not, Trump's kids were off limits.

In an essay she posted on her website Saturday, titled "What We See and Why," Rosie defended herself. "[H]ere is how it went down," she said, "my 3.5 yr old daughter Dakota was diagnosed in September with HFA – high functioning autism."

O'Donnell went on to explain that after seeing an anti-bullying commercial that featured Barron, she saw all of the signs that she had seen in her own daughter. "I thought – how amazing IF IF it is true IF it is true – I tweeted from my heart it would help so much with the autism epidemic," she said.

O'Donnell admitted that while she and Donald Trump have disagreed on many things over the years, they both agree that autism spectrum disorder, which currently affects 1 in 55 children, is an epidemic.

Rosie ended her post saying, "Though I admit he does trigger me in all ways – I have no ill will for his children – or any children –for those who felt me a horror what can I say...humans we try r [sic] very best and fail often peace out as we try to save democracy from this madman who thinks OUR country is his."
