Trailer Park: ‘The Girl on the Train’ rides into theaters

What the characters in this week’s new releases observe change their lives.  Witnessing crimes put them at the forefront of uprisings and investigations including one character who becomes more than just a commuter on a train.

Every day on her way to and from work, a woman watches a couple in their home as she passes by in The Girl on the Train.  One day things change when she sees something strange unfold that involves the woman she watches every day.  Emily Blunt stars in the suspense film alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Lisa Kudrow and Laura Prepon.  The one hour and fifty-two minute thriller is based on Paula Hawkins’ novel of the same name.  It’s rated R for violence, sex, language and nudity.

A teen seeks revenge on his school principal after his book is destroyed in Middle School:  The Worst Years of My Life.  With the help of his friend, the two concoct a plan full of pranks that goes against every one of the principal’s rules.  The PG family comedy plays for one hour and thirty-two minutes.

A slave preacher is called upon by slave masters to calm their rebellious servants and make them more obedient in The Birth of a Nation.  As he performs his tasks, he sees the abuse the slaves are going through and incites a rebellion against the mistreatment, in search of freedom.  The one hour and fifty minute drama is written, directed and stars Nate Parker.  The film is based on real events and costars Gabrielle Union, Armie Hammer and Penelope Ann Miller.  It’s rated R for violence and nudity.

A bunch of new films are heading into theaters next week.  October 14 is the release date for the thriller Desierto, the action packed Max Steel, Ben Affleck’s dramatic thriller The Accountant and Kevin Hart’s comedy documentary What Now?.
