Hilary Duff and her boyfriend, Jason Walsh, were criticized for the Halloween costumes they showed off over the weekend and now the Younger actress has issued an apology.
Duff and Walsh were slammed by social media users for their Halloween costume choices after photos were snapped of the two attending the Casamigos Halloween Party in Beverly Hills on Friday, Oct. 28th.
The former Disney star dressed up as a sexy Pilgrim, while her boyfriend went to the celebration as a Native American chief. This triggered an uproar from social media users due to the proximity of the Dakota Pipeline protest and what it signifies. Thousands of Native Americans and supporters are protesting the construction of a pipeline that would destroy sacred grounds. As US Magazine noted, this prompted many Twitter users to slam the couple for cultural appropriation and stereotyping.
No @HilaryDuff Traditional dress is not a costume and you being dressed as a pilgrim proves to me how insensitive and ignorant you are. https://t.co/0NvP6DD79I
