‘Joshy’ Blu-ray movie review

The movie Joshy by Lionsgate manages to be outrageously silly and touch your heart at the same time. The art film was an official selection of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and was released on DVD and Blu-ray on Oct. 4.

Joshy’s fiancée commits suicide on his birthday, leaving him in emotional turmoil. Discovering that they can’t get the deposit back on the rental house where they were supposed to have the bachelor party, he and his friends decide to go anyway. The guys are determined to get Joshy’s mind off of his troubles with a weekend of drinking, drugs and debauchery. The film ultimately depicts male bonding and the emotional incompetence that often goes along with it.

This film is full of funny people. Jenny Slate, Nick Kroll and Brett Gelman top the list. The actors are perfectly cast for their over the top characters. The story has its sad and touching moments making it an intelligent film, but it’s mostly sequences of outrageous humor including hookers, strippers and hot tubs.

If you’re a fan of debauched hilarity but still like a smart film, this would be the perfect movie for you. If you don’t enjoy depraved humor, you’ll want to look elsewhere.

While the film has emotional sections, it’s first and foremost a crazy comedy. Personally, I really enjoyed this movie and recommend it if you can handle the humor.
