Five new TV shows you need to start watching

Westworld

When robots are paired with the Wild West, there must be something good going on.  Critically loved, with huge viewership, Westworld is a science fiction thriller HBO series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and produced by Nolan and J.J. Abrams based on the 1973 novel by Michael Crichton.

Westworld is a futuristic theme park where real people called “newcomers” go to live out their fantasies free from any actual harm coming to them with completely lifelike androids called “hosts.” But, some of the androids aren’t sticking to the program and are indicating that they are becoming self-aware.

This show takes place in the fantasy world, as well as in the lab.  Here the illusion is created and the troublesome hosts interact with their creators. The beautiful western landscapes are perfectly juxtaposed against the cold, metallic futuristic lab and watching it makes the viewer wonder when the hosts, like heroine Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) or the newcomer, evil gunslinger known as the Man in Black (Ed Harris) will make discoveries and take actions that will change Westworld forever? Moments after Dolores declares to her creators, that she would never harm a living thing, she kills a fly.  This signifies that something has changed with her programming and makes viewers glued to the screen, only slightly annoyed that we have to wait another week to find out what happens next.

The actors are top notch and include Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Wright, Thandie Newton and James Marsden and make this a must see staple of the fall.
