Trailer Park: The thriller ‘The 9th Life of Louis Drax’ enters theaters

Moviegoers will be on the edge of their seat when checking out this week’s new releases. The suspense filled films are bringing thrills and chills through horrors and a psychological thriller.

Having cheated death eight times already, a fall from a cliff lands a young boy in a coma in The 9th Life of Louis Drax. As the cause of the tragic accident remains unknown, a neurologist uses unconventional methods to get into the mind of the child to find out if he was pushed.  As he delves deeper into his psyche, he uncovers secrets that have a major impact on the family and investigation. The suspense film stars Jamie Dornan, Sarah Gadon, Aaron Paul and Oliver Platt. The thriller is running in limited theaters for one hour and forty-eight minutes. It’s rated R for language.

 

A science experiment turns dangerous in Morgan.  A child who was created through bioengineering grows up to be a threat to those around her. A corporate analyst is sent to a secret locale to investigate an incident that has the genetically engineered young woman at the center of a crime. The limited released thriller stars Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Toby Jones, Rose Leslie, Boyd Holbrook, Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Paul Giamatti. The one hour and thirty-one minute suspense film is rated R for violence and language.

 

A widowed man struggles with the loss of his wife in Max Rose. While going through her things, he finds a compact with an engraved message from another man. This discovery causes him to question their sixty-five year marriage and reflect on his own life. Jerry Lewis stars in the limited released drama alongside Kevin Pollak, Fred Willard Claire Broom, Illeana Douglas and Kerry Bishe. The one hour and twenty-three minute film is unrated.

 

Teenage yoga enthusiasts go to great lengths to attend an upperclassman party in Yoga Hosers. When dangerous Nazi bratwursts (yes, the sausages) attack and threaten their chances of going to the party, the high school sophomores tap into their arsenal of yoga moves to defeat them. Kevin Smith wrote and directed this PG-13 comedic horror film starring his daughter Harley Quinn Smith and Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose Depp. Johnny Depp also co-stars in the film alongside Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Adam Brody, Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Tyler Posey and Stan Lee. The fantasy adventure is playing in limited theaters for one hour and twenty-eight minutes.

A man looks to avenge his brother’s death in Kickboxer: Vengeance.  Following his older brother’s demise in an intense kickboxing fight against a Muay Thai champion, a man heads to Thailand to battle his brother’s killer. Before he steps in the ring, he reaches out to his brother’s mentor for help. The unrated, one hour and thirty minute action film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alain Moussi and mixed martial artists Georges St-Pierre and Dave Bautista.

 

A party girl unexpectedly finds out that she’s pregnant in Antibirth. She’s not experiencing a normal pregnancy; instead she’s struggling with symptoms of paranoia and hallucinations, making her question if she’s carrying a human baby or something evil. The unrated, one hour and thirty-four minute horror film stars Natasha Lyonne and Chloë Sevigny.

 

Two estranged friends from Denmark travel to the United States in Klown Forever. One friend’s goal is to make it big in Hollywood while the other is there to try to reconnect and mend their relationship. During their stay, they come across some interesting people and awkward social interactions. The one hour and thirty-nine minute limited released comedy is rated R for sex, drugs and language.

 

The suspense continues next week as the thrillers The Disappointments Room and When the Bough Breaks enter theaters.  Tom Hanks’ new biopic, Sully, also debuts on Sept. 9.
