'Do The Right Thing' and 'Sister Act' star Bill Nunn dies at 62

Actor Bill Nunn, best known for starring in Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing, passed away Sept. 24 at age 62.

Taking to Instagram, Lee announced the news of his passing. He said, “My dear friend, my dear morehouse brother- da great actor Bill Nunn as most of you know him as Radio Raheem passed away this morning in his hometown of Pittsburgh.”

Nunn appeared in his first film with Lee in the 1988 movie School Daze, a year before Do the Right Thing came out.

In addition to working with Spike Lee, Nunn also starred in the Whoopi Goldberg film Sister Act. He would later appear in the Spider-Man trilogy as Joseph “Robbie Robertson,” an employee for the newspaper in the series.

Entertainment Weekly reported Nunn once spoke of his role as Raheem, saying the character “was really good for me because I like those characters that don’t have a lot of lines but they’re kind of significant to the story.”

His latest role was for the television series Sirens as Cash.

He leaves behind his wife, Donna Nunn and two daughters, Cydney and Jessica.

In addition to Lee, other stars paid tribute to the actor on social media.
