The Fan Empire July 2016 subscription unboxing review

The Fan Empire is a subscription box service that caters to fandom lovers. The theme rotates monthly so you receive new gear in each box from a variety of fandoms. They put 4-6 items in each package including things like posters, T-shirts, bookmarks, keychains and more. I was sent the July box where the theme was, “I Solemnly Swear That I am Up to No Good!” So exciting because I’ll never outgrow Harry Potter. I’ll run down the list of what was in the box and set you on the road to getting your own!

At the top of this article, you’ll see the box my new stuff was shipped in. Very artistic and it immediately let me know who the box was from. I hate having to guess the sender from a simple address. It just doesn’t build up the excitement as well. So, beautiful box. Let’s see what was inside.

Fan Empire pillowcase

The first items in the box were my new favorite pillowcase, a pocket mirror and a bookmark. Everything in the package is based on the Marauders’ Map from Harry Potter.

The pillowcase looks like it will fit an 18 inch by 18 inch throw pillow. I was sad to see it didn’t tell the size on the card, but I’m judging by other pillows I have. It’s a silky material with beautiful artwork from the map. I can’t wait to get an insert for it and put it in a place of honor.

The pocket mirror is round and has the box’s theme emblazoned across the back. It’s one-sided, so not a compact, but it will be easy to carry in my purse. It feels like good quality, so I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t last a long time.

The bookmark also has the words that activate the map written on it. It even includes footprints and the back of the bookmark has the original boys’ taunts for Snape. It’s laminated so it will last – a great piece of memorabilia.

Fan Empire necklace

The last two items in the box were a key chain and a necklace. Both fit in with the theme of the map. The key chain is gold tone and shows the outline of Hogwarts on it as well as the name of the map. The necklace is a little glass bottle holding the map in miniature and set on a leather tie. While the key chain will definitely get some use, I absolutely love the necklace and can’t wait to wear it.

Overall, this box was a lot of fun. The themes are not always Harry Potter related, but he’s thrown in fairly often. They’ve also covered Hunger Games, Percy Jackson and others. As I said before, it changes monthly.

The box only costs $14.95 per month with a small shipping fee, which is amazingly low compared to other fandom clubs. You can also get a discount by prepaying for three, six or 12 months in advance. According to the website, the items you receive add up to around a $50 value. I don’t know that my items were that high in price, but they certainly added up to more than the cost of the box.

If you have a friend of family member who loves various fandoms relating to books and TV, this subscription would make a great gift. Or make it a present for yourself. The price is low enough to work into your budget and you get an amazing surprise every month. To sign up, click here.
