Freshman New York Congressman Lee Zeldin (R) took a shot at San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Monday after the suspect in the Manhattan bombings was arrested.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Ahmad Khan Rahami, who had been linked to the bombings in Manhattan on Saturday, was arrested on Monday in Linden, N. J. after a shootout with police. About 30 people were injured in the bombing.
After Rahami was arrested Zeldin tweeted about the arrest saying,” Suspect in custody. You are welcome Colin Kaepernick.”

As we’ve previously reported, Kaepernick has not stood during the national anthem as a protest against social injustice and police brutality. Zeldin, who is up for re-election next month issued a statement on Monday.
"This is that moment in time that reminds us exactly of why we are so blessed to have men and women in our military, law enforcement, and other first responders who would risk their lives and lay it all on the line to protect our freedoms and liberties," Zeldin said. "We wouldn't be able to live in the greatest nation in the world if not for these heroes who keep us safe, secure and free."
He added that he loves our country and the people who defend us and that he is insulted when people don’t stand for the national anthem.
People ripped Zeldin on Twitter since his Kaepernick tweet didn’t make any sense, including another Long Island congressman, Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington) who tweeted, "The swift apprehension of Rahami is a tribute to smart law enforcement. What isn’t smart is the hysteria of some public officials."

@leezeldin If only Kaepernick had stood for the anthem these past two weeks, we could have caught the terrorist 3 hours sooner probably.

@leezeldin If only you'd written "You are" as "Your," this would have been the perfect stupid tweet.

@leezeldin what does protesting police brutality have to do with this?

I'm just happy the suspect wasn't at a football game where cops walked off the job because they had hurt feelings. https://t.co/1nbxaOmisl
