Julie Chen warned that we should "expect the unexpected" on Big Brother, however, it's becoming tradition to expect a two-season pickup.
CBS has given the summer staple a new two-season order. This marks the second consecutive time that the long-running reality competition show was awarded with two additional seasons before their current one ended.
The pickup will contain season 19 and their milestone year, season 20, which will air in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
The news of Big Brother's renewal arrives days after CBS announced that they will air a digital season of the summer hit exclusively on their online platform, CBS All Access, in the fall.
Big Brother has been a ratings juggernaut since it's inception in 2000. Their three-a-week broadcasts rank in the top five in the 18-34 demographic and also nabs a place in the top 10 in the 18-49 demographic.
The current season 18 has reached the halfway point as the first member of jury has been tapped and this Thursday will see a surprise double-eviction.
Big Brother is produced by Alison Grodner and Rich Meehan for Fly On the Wall Entertainment. It airs every Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday on CBS.
