Some big names in the world of wrestling have joined in a lawsuit against World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. alleging that the company did not provide adequate medical treatment for head injuries and did not disclose the dangers of such injuries.
Joe Laurinaitis a.k.a. Road Warrior Animal is one of the plaintiffs suing the WWE as is wrestling Hall of Famers "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, who was arrested last year for the 1983 murder of his former girlfriend. CNN noted that Snuka was found mentally incompetent to stand trial. His lawyers said that he suffers from dementia likely brought on by the concussions he suffered throughout his career.
Ax and Smash who made up the Demolition tag team, Slick and Chris Pallies better known as King King Bundy are some of the other recognizable names suing the sports organization.
The 214-page document filed accuses the WWE and owner Vince McMahon, of knowing about the effects of repeated hits to the head but chose profits over the wrestlers’ health by allowing dangerous moves to go on for decades.
The WWE released the following statement in response to the lawsuit:
“This is another ridiculous attempt by the same attorney who has previously filed class action lawsuits against WWE, both of which have been dismissed. A federal judge has already found that this lawyer made patently false allegations about WWE, and this is more of the same. We're confident this lawsuit will suffer the same fate as his prior attempts and be dismissed.”
Konstantine Kyros, a member of the legal team who brought the suit against the WWE then responded to company’s statement saying that "It has been the studied practice of WWE through its counsel to denigrate the motives and integrity of anyone who is courageous enough to protest WWE's self-serving choice to ignore the human toll and health crisis that its policies, fraud, and mistreatment of its workers have created."
