Shailene Woodley had no idea about the possibility of the Divergent finale heading to TV.
The actress was doing press for her upcoming film, Snowden, at Comic-Con and was asked about the rumors from yesterday that the final Divergent film might not be on the big screen.
"Honestly, I was on a plane when all that happened and I landed, and I’m like 'Whoa, what’s going on?,'" Woodley said, according to Deadline. "I need to talk and find out what the details are."
Woodley has played the lead in all three Divergent films. She was set to reprise her role as freedom fighter Tris in the fourth and final film, Ascendant, but as we reported due to the weak box office performance of the third film, the finale could be reworked as a TV movie. A TV movie would also launch a new cast of characters who would headline their own spin-off series.
Lee Toland Krieger (Age of Adaline, Celeste & Jesse Forever) is still attached to direct Ascendant. The film is scheduled for June 9, 2017, but no writer is announced for the project yet. Plus, the lead actress doesn't know what's happening so that date isn't looking too good. Especially since Brad Pitt's World War Z 2 is also scheduled for June 9 of next year and there's no director.
The Tom Cruise-Sofia Boutella Mummy remake is also slated for that date, but that movie, wait for it ... wrapped filming earlier this month, according to ComingSoon.net.
